The BBC announced today the results of a new global poll on climate change. According to the Globescan poll, an average of 79% of respondents agreed that “human activity, including industry and transportation, is a significant cause of climate change”. The poll backs up UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon’s statement on Monday, at a high level UN climate change meeting, that “the time for doubt has passed”.
That a majority now see global warming as something that man has contributed to, and can therefore influence, is clearly welcome news, not least because it gives world leaders an opportunity to follow up with strong action to tackle climate change.
Having said that, the BBC polled 22,000 people in 21 countries…er…just over 1000 people in each country. Is that really representative? We hope so.
New climate change poll…but is it representative?
